Though things in Seattle are starting to open up, many of us are still stuck at home for days on end. While we all sit here patiently waiting for things to magically fix themselves, why not watch some great TV?

Recommendation #1: “Bob’s Burgers” 13+

“Bob’s Burgers” is a great background show. It has interesting plot lines with new takes on more classic animated sitcoms. “Bob’s Burgers”  is about Bob Belcher, his wife Linda, their three kids, Jean, Louise and Tina and the other cast of various characters. Bob and Linda have an entertaining dynamic that works well as a marriage but also as parents. The three Belcher children all also have fun personalities that seem to capture the lighthearted way kids look at the world. The other characters always add a ridiculous flair to the show if it’s their almost outrageous personalities or the wacky storylines they and the Belcher family get mixed up in. It follows their adventures through their times running their restaurant. This cartoon is irreverent, smart, and a great show to have on while you do your homework.

Where to watch: Hulu

Recommendation #2: “Umbrella Academy” 15+

“The Umbrella Academy” is based off of a comic series of the same name. “TUA” is the perfect balance of dark humor and complex storylines. It is an interesting take on the classic superhero boarding school genre. While the show is not really true to the plot of the comics it is still very enjoyable to watch. It mixes great characterizations with even better actors to play highly characterized roles. Each new character that is introduced you can immediately tell their personality from their costumes, their dialogue and their actions. The attention to detail for each aspect of this show is very clear. Every episode is imbued with creative thinking, strong writing, and quirky character arcs. The soundtrack fits in perfectly with the characters and their actions.

Where to watch: Netflix

Recommendation #3: “Community” 14+

“Community”  follows the path of a study group while they go through community college. The study group is made up of people from many different walks of life, each with unique personalities and world views. “Community” is for fans of “The Office” that wish there was more whimsical creativity to the episodes. Each episode is packed with charismatic characters and not so charismatic characters. There are themed episodes like “Paintball” that are truly iconic and hilarious. This show has been around for a while but is not talked about enough. This show is filled with great comedy performed by charismatic actors. Community also has hilarious continuous bits that will have you laughing every time.

Where to watch: Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime

Recommendation #4: “The Boys” 18+

“The Boys” is a show about lovable yet morally grey characters facing off against truly despicable Superheroes. You might not believe me when I say evil superheroes since it goes against the very meaning of the word, but in this alternate reality the superheros double as celebrities starring in TV and on lots of merchandise. This combination of powers being a superhero and also a celebrity leads to them having no consequences for their actions. Each of “The Boys,” have been wronged in some way by the “Supes” specifically “The Seven” (the superpowered heroes hired by Vought to “Fight crime” though it seems they mostly do anything but. Think the avengers but evil). “The Boys”  decide to take revenge for the ways they were mistreated. In this violent call for revenge and justice “The Boys” is every comic book lover’s fantasy. It is everything that you want the Marvel movies to be and more, it has more substance and heart with a lot of gritty violence and dark humor. If you are a fan of comic books, good writing and great lighting, or just good TV, then you should watch this show.

 Where to watch: Amazon Prime
